Scholastic Chess League Rules - Fall 2006 (See Schedule and Divisions Page
for more information)
Coach/ Advisor:
- Home Team: Have safe, quiet space for players and advisors to assemble
and compete. Provide adequate facility for matches with 3 sets and boards.
Start play on time @ 4:00, 4:40, and 5:20 so play can finish by about 6:00.
It is a very tight schedule (20 minutes per player per game*)
- Visiting Team: Call other team (from the list provided by the league
office) at least 24 hours before match to confirm time and place and
directions. Arrive and have team ready to play at 4:00. Remember match
should finish by about 6:00.
- All: Keep roster current. Only the 12 listed players may represent your
school/club. Roster List may be changed (brjohn@juno.com)
up to week four at least 24 hours before any match.
- Team Captain: Assign boards for games. Have players seated on time at
correct board. See that all games are reported and recorded with the correct
results. Captain signs the scoresheet and assures results are correct as
listed. These scores must be sent by home team to Brother John (brjohn@juno.com)
upon completion of the match. Failure to report game by Friday at 10:00pm
will result in a double forfeit. (Winning team may choose to send in results
as well.)
- Transportation: It is the responsibility of the visiting team to arrange
for transportation for their players and any persons traveling with the
team.
- Club / School Team: A club team may consist of 3 or more players from
the same schol traveling with a parent/advisor. A club team might play in
the local library, in a quiet (acceptable) place made available for the
match. A school team would have the support of the faculty and
administration, and the district might provide transportation and other
financial resources. A teacher may of necessity be required to be present at
all activities of a school team.
- Schedule: The universal league plan calls for matches to be played on
Friday, but teams may play on any day of the week by calling the league
office and the other coach and agreeing on the date and time of the match.
Adjustments will be posted on the league schedule as soon as they are
received. No adjustments may be made within the last 24 hours before a
match. The match is officially over after the results have been
recorded with the league office. If posted results on the website are
incorrect, notify Webmaster Brother John immediately, so clarifications can
be made.
RULES:
- Matches start at 4:00, so plan to arrive at least 5 minutes early. *Game
in 30 minutes is the standard if clocks are used. Rd 2 is scheduled for 4:40
and Rd 3 is scheduled for 5:20. It is the responsibility of the home team
coach to make adjustments to this schedule, including shortening the match
to 6 games, if time seems short. Both coaches are to act as TD to
settle any disputes that arise.
- The plan for individual matches calls for the home team to select 3
players to play 3 players from the visiting team, for a total of 9 points.
Any or all of the matches from the roster list may be made, but any one
player may only play the other team player once for the match, and only to a
limit of three games total on any one day. (All 12 players on the
roster may play 12 players from the other school, but only 9 games would be
designated as counting toward the team score.)
- Clocks may be used in the last 10 minutes of a match, and players are no
longer required to write down moves (when there are less than 5 minutes
remaining).
- One coach for each team is to act as official TD's to settle any disutes
arising during a match. The home team is the ruling official, aided by
consultation with the other coach. TD decisions can be appealed if made with
24 hours after the match by e-mail to
brjohn@juno.com. USCF rules will apply.
