Based on Bill Townsend's History column in The Daily Gazette, 12/26/05 (Page D1) Schenectady Chess Club 100 Years Old. On Oct 7, 1905 the Schenectady YMCA Chess Club began what is now a 40 member group of chess players. In the beginning, they would meet at 1113 State St, the home of Dr Joseph Garlick. On March 7, 1941, I.A. Horowitz visited the club's YMCA headquarters for a simultaneous exhibition. This active group now meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30 in the basement of the Niskayuna Community Center, 2682 Aqueduct Road. New members are welcome.
